Position Summary:

This classification covers those employees who hand fabricate a wide variety of uncured rubber parts and assemblies.

Tools, Equipment & Materials Used:

Mandrels, molds, forming tools, knives, razors, scissors, brush, surgical needles, “c” clamps, vacuum and air hoses, solvents, adhesives, cement, Dacron, silicone, bonding agents, fabrics, metal inserts, valve inserts, urethane, neoprene.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works following instructions or verbal directions from foreman.
  • Performs such typical duties as:
  1. Shaping part using a hand held forming tool
  2. Bonding fabrics or other materials to rubber part using hand and finger pressure.
  3. Building up parts by applying layers of materials.
  4. Placing parts in holding fixture or affixing to mandrel for subsequent operations.
  5. Inserting part or layers in mold cavity.
  6. Cleaning part with solvent, immersing in water to cool, wrapping part in plastic, testing for leaks under water with air pressure or vacuum.
  7. Cutting materials, weighing parts, trimming flash.
  8. Removing adhesive with wire brush or cloth.
  • May operate a small tuber, steam autoclave, dry air cure, or splice press.
  • Completes required production documents and records.
  • Reviews own work for completeness and quality workmanship.
  • Follows established housekeeping and safety practices to maintain the quality of the work environment.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned.
