Job Summary
The Design Engineer Intern will be part of a team that is responsible for daily activities relating to Design of new products in addition to sustaining existing business activity. The Design Engineer Intern role will encompass a wide range of responsibilities from drawing modifications and 3D modeling of parts through to Design Realization. The Design Intern shall be flexible to perform other tasks such as testing and FEA simulation.
Salary Range: $20 per hour.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Documentation
- Preparation and modification of change requests, technical notes, best practice, guidelines, and presentations.
- Create schedules, flow charts, spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations.
- Manage and continuously update the document management system to provide a history of all drawings, correspondence, documents and approvals concerning specific projects, standards and technical data.
CAD
- Create 3D CAD models with CATIA V5 from customer specifications using solid and surfacing techniques.
- Modify 2D drawings with CATIA V5 based on approved Engineering Change Requests.
- Creation of 3D CAD models for the production of tooling and rapid prototyping
Finite Element Analysis
- Create 3D models suitable for Abaqus simulation.
- Assist in creation, modification, and adjustment of part meshes with oversight from fellow Engineering peers.
- Assist in creation of boundary constraints and load cases to run Finite Element Analysis studies using Abaqus.
Test
- Perform testing as required to support production and new product validation.
- Design test fixtures to support the execution of Qualification Test Plans.
- Support creation of Qualification Test Plans and Reports.
Processes
- Contribute in identifying process improvements to the Engineering Team.
- Participate in milestone review preparation.
- Implementing and working within AS9100 quality system standard for supplying to the Aerospace industry.
- Other duties may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong communication, presentation, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Reasoning skills for problem identification and resolution
- Lean skills and tools exposure advantageous
- Computer literate; able to utilize MS Office Suite
- Must excel at working in a team environment
- Ability to communicate detailed, technical initiatives to non-technical people.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Previous experience with FEA and simulation software would be a plus
- Previous experience in CAD software such as SOLIDWORKS or CATIA V5

Education/Previous Experience Requirements
- Must be a Junior standing or above
- Solid academic track record of accomplishment
- Coursework in engineering design, structural analysis, and computer aided design
- Courses in material science is a plus but not required
